October 2024 Horror Movie Preview
Get a sneak peak at every new horror movie coming to theaters, VOD, and your favorite streaming services just in time for spooky season!
It’s my favorite time of year, when the Halloween decorations start appearing in doorways and a wide array of new horror movies release to fill my evenings. Here’s a look at every horror movie you can look forward to in the month of October.

October 1 - Down Below (Digital/VOD)
On the 20th anniversary of the gruesome Christmas Eve murders at St. Agnes Church, a demonic preacher from the past returns to haunt that same town's residents. Among them is Salem, a young man whose once-happy life is being torn from him piece by piece, as he’s framed for an unspeakable crime.
The only one who believes his innocence is a broken-hearted call-girl (Alexis Knapp), who has nightmares of her own. Together and apart, they’re forced to face their own demons as well as a real one, who goes by the name of Mr. Monday.
October 3 - The Legend of Johnny Jones (Digital/VOD)
Set in the housing projects of New Jersey. A young man that has only known poverty and abuse his whole life; suffers a mental breakdown and goes on a killing spree like no other in history. When his rage can't be controlled the legend; known as, Johnny Jones, is born.
October 3 - Hold Your Breath (Hulu)
In dust bowl Oklahoma of the 1930s, a mother ( Sarah Paulson) nears the breaking point as she tries to protect her daughters from deadly windstorms and the impact of her own harrowing past. When the older girl tells the legend of the Grey Man to the younger one, the story slips under the skin of the whole family. The Grey Man is a spirit carried like dust in the wind, breathed in, and never to be shaken.
October 3 - House of Spoils (Prime)
From Blumhouse, House of Spoils follows an ambitious chef (Ariana DeBose) as she opens a restaurant on a remote estate where she battles kitchen chaos, crushing self-doubts... and a haunting presence who threatens to sabotage her at every turn.
October 3 - Salem’s Lot (Max)
Ben Mears, a writer who spent part of his childhood in Jerusalem's Lot, Maine, also known as 'Salem's Lot, has returned after twenty-five years to write a book about the long-abandoned Marsten House, where he had a bad experience as a child. He soon discovers that an ancient evil has also come to town and its turning the residents into vampires. He vows to stop the plague of undead and save the town.
October 4 - It’s What’s Inside (Netflix)
A pre-wedding reunion descends into a psychological nightmare for a group of college friends when a surprise guest arrives with a mysterious suitcase.
October 4 - Little Bites (Limited Theater Release)
LITTLE BITES follows Mindy, a young widow and mother, who desperately tries to protect her daughter Alice from the grips of a fiendish, flesh eating monster named Agyar. Mindy has been secretly sacrificing her own life by allowing the creature to slowly feast on her body as she keeps Alice hidden away at her grandmother’s home.
October 4 - Monster Summer (Theater Release)
When a mysterious force begins to disrupt their big summer fun, Noah and his friends team up with a retired police detective to embark on a monstrous adventure to save their island.
October 4 - The Wait (Digital/VOD)
Deep in the Andalusian countryside, Eladio (Victor Clavijo) works as the groundskeeper of a hunting estate owned by the powerful Don Francisco. After taking a bribe from a veteran hunter, Eladio's normal life falls apart, plunging him into the depths of guilt, hatred and revenge.
October 4 - The Platform 2 (Netflix)
After a mysterious leader imposes his law in a brutal system of vertical cells, a new arrival battles against a dubious food distribution method.
October 4 - Operation Blood Hunt (Digital/VOD)
Prolific expert of the occult and whiskey, Reverend Conte, accompanies a ragtag group of military rejects to a remote South Pacific Island to investigate the disappearance of Marines units stationed there in 1944, said to be at the hands of the Japanese Imperial Army. Upon speaking with the island's inhabitants, they soon discover the Marines had actually been massacred by a group of werewolves.
October 4 - Frankie Freako (Limited Theater Release)
Workaholic yuppie Conor Sweeney (The Editor, Father’s Day) has a dilemma: no one in his life respects him! Not his boss, not his coworkers, not even his wife Kristina, who thinks he’s an uptight “square”! Conor sees no way out of this existential rut until one night channel-surfing he catches a bizarre ad for a party hotline hosted by a strange dancing goblin: FRANKIE FREAKO. Conor is entranced by Frankie’s promises of wild and freaky adventures, just a phone call away – could this be the recipe to spice up his flavorless life?
October 4 - V/H/S Beyond (Shudder)
In the latest entry of the V/H/S foumd footage anthology series, six bloodcurdling tapes unleash horror in a sci-fi inspired hell landscape, pushing the boundaries of fear and suspense.
October 4 - Things Will Be Different (Limited Theater Release and Digital/VOD)
IIn order to escape police after a robbery, two estranged siblings lay low in a farmhouse that hides them away in a different time. There they reckon with a mysterious force that pushes their familial bonds to unnatural breaking points.
October 8 - The Forest Hills (Digital/VOD)
Featuring Shelley Duvall in her final acting role, The Forest Hills follows a man who is tormented by nightmarish visions after enduring head trauma while camping in the Catskill woods.
October 8 - Haunt Season (Digital/VOD)
Aspiring actress Matilda, desperate for a role, accepts a job as a scalped woman in a Halloween haunt attraction. As she delves into the haunt entertainment world, a masked maniac begins targeting the cast, replicating their staged injuries in gruesome reality. On Halloween night, the killer unleashes a wave of violence on visitors, bringing the ancient sacrificial origins of All Hallows' Eve into the present. Matilda and her newfound friends must band together to survive the night.
October 10 - Caddo Lake (Max)
From producer M. Night Shyamalan, when an 8-year-old girl disappears on Caddo Lake, a series of past deaths and disappearances begin to link together, altering a broken family's history.
October 11 - Daddy’s Head (Shudder)
The story of Daddy’s Head follows a boy and his young, recently widowed stepmother who find themselves in fear for their lives after they are visited by a strange and unexplainable creature – something that appears to mimic a horrifying version of the boy’s recently deceased father.
October 11 - Seven Cemeteries (Digital/VOD)
A recent parolee (Danny Trejo) gets a Mexican witch to resurrect his old posse so that they can help him save a woman's ranch from a ruthless drug lord.
October 11 - Terrifier 3 (Theater Release)
In the latest entry in the Terrifier franchise, Art the Clown is set to unleash chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve.
October 11 - Mr. Crocket (Hulu)
In 1993, a mysterious children’s show host, Mr. Crocket, magically emerges from television sets to kidnap young children, brutally slaying their parents in the process. After Mr. Crocket snatches her son, one determined mother embarks on a perilous quest to track down the demonic entertainer and rescue her boy.
October 18 - Die Alone (Limited Theater Release and Digital/VOD)
Lost in a world reclaimed by nature and overrun by mysterious creatures, a young man with amnesia teams up with an eccentric survivalist to find his missing girlfriend.
October 18 - Smile 2 (Theater Release)
About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.
October 18 - MadS (Shudder)
A teenager who stops off to see his dealer to test a new drug before heading off for a night of partying. On the way home, he picks up an injured woman and the night takes a surreal turn.
October 18 - Rippy (Limited Theater Release and Digital/VOD)
Previously titled “The Red”, when locals in a country town start being killed by a zombie kangaroo, the local sheriff must face her past and work with her eccentric uncle to defeat the beast before it kills everyone.
October 18 - I Will Never Leave You Alone (Digital/VOD)
After being released from prison, a brooding man with a dark past is forced to stay in a haunted house to clear it of spirits. If he leaves, he goes back to prison, but the witch-ghost may be more punishment than he can withstand.
October 18 - Children of the Pines (Digital/VOD)
Over her winter break, Riley, a college junior, is persuaded by her estranged parents, Kathy and John, to visit. Unbeknownst to her, they've developed an unsettling friendship with her high school ex, Gordon, while also seeking supernatural healing for their family's deep-rooted issues.
October 21 - Carved (Hulu)
Based on the short film of the same name, Carved follows a heartbroken teenage playwright, her younger brother, and a disparate group of survivors who become trapped in a historical reenactment village on Halloween night. They must band together to survive a relentless assault by a sentient and vengeful pumpkin.
October 24 - Detour 95 (Digital/VOD)
When Candace leaves northern New Jersey for Miami, Florida, to escape the violence and poverty; her reality becomes a nightmare. Forced to take a detour in North Carolina from Interstate 95 because of an accident and her mechanically unstable car, she quickly finds herself fighting for her life in a redneck nightmare.
October 25 - Don’t Move (Netflix)
From producer Sam Raimi, a seasoned killer injects a grieving woman with a paralytic agent. Alone in the forsts of Big Sur, she must run, fight and hide with just 20 minutes left before her body completely shuts down.
October 25 - Your Monster (Theater Release)
After her life falls apart, soft-spoken actress Laura Franco finds her voice again when she meets a terrifying, yet weirdly charming Monster living in her closet. A romantic-comedy-horror film about falling in love with your inner rage.
October 25 - Azrael (Shudder)
In a world in which no one speaks a devout female-led community hunts down a young woman who has escaped her imprisonment. Recaptured by its ruthless leaders, Azrael is due to be sacrificed to pacify an ancient evil deep within the surrounding wilderness - but she'll stop at nothing to ensure her own survival. Azrael makes a savage bid for freedom as her escape accelerates towards a vicious, revenge-fueled showdown.
October 30 - Time Cut (Netflix)
Lucy, a modern high school senior and amateur inventor, accidentally finds a time machine and travels back to 2003, the year her sister was murdered by an unknown serial killer. Now torn between solving the mystery that has undone her parents and her hometown, saving the sister that she never knew, and irreparably altering the future - and her own existence - Lucy must decide how to stop the slasher, save her family, and blend into 2003.
October 31 - Director’s Cut (Limited Theater Release and Digital/VOD)
Excited to shoot their first music video, a punk rock band ventures into the woods of P.A. never to return.
