3 New Horror Movies Still Coming in May
There's still time for scares with an intense slasher, an animation nightmare, and an indie home invasion horror.
The month may almost be over, but there’s still new films to check out, including one of the most anticipated slashers of the year.
Here are all the new release horror movies for May 20-31th!
Austrialian director Ursula Dabrowsky returns this week with her first feature film since Inner Demon (2017) about a home invasion spurred by family drama. Starring Cassandra Kane, Mark Fantasia, and Luca Asta Sardelis, The Devil’s Work finds a young couple, Charlie and Dustin, fighting for their lives when their romantic weekend getaway is abruptly interrupted by Charlie’s unhinged, homicidal sister, Lindy. When the shocking truth behind Lindy’s intentions emerges, the couple find themselves in a desperate struggle for survival.
With tense one-shot camera work and an eerie performance from Sardelis, this slow burn home invasion horror might make you rethink inviting family to visit.
‘The Devil’s Work’ is available May 24th on Digital/VOD.
After heavily dividing audiences in its limited theaters release with its graphic and unnerving visuals, Stopmotion is finally settling into its new home on Shudder. Director Robert Morgan, known for his stop-motion animated shorts, centers his first feature length film on Ella (Aisling Franciosi), a stop-motion animator struggling to control her demons after the loss of her overbearing mother as she attempts to complete the matriarch’s final project. When she meets a young girl in her apartment complex, the lines between reality and insanity begin to blur as her creations take on a life of their own.
Featuring heavily unsettling animation work, this film combines a dark, tense atmosphere with some serious third act gore to show how sometimes finding your own voice comes at a serious price.

‘Stopmotion’ (2024) is available May 31st on Shudder.
With a new exclusive clip making rounds this week on social media, the horror community has been buzzing about the highly anticipated slasher from director Chris Nash. In A Violent Nature follows Johnny, “a vengeful undead brute, as he methodically slaughters a group of campers in the wilderness after they remove a pendant from his resting grounds,” according to the official plot synopsis.
The film provides a unique premise — a look at the slasher genre from the villain himself — and critics have already teased it’s for an audience with a strong stomach.
‘In A Violent Nature’ releases in theaters in the US by IFC Films on May 31st, with a streaming release on Shudder later in the year.
